Join the first in a series of annual scientific lectures to celebrate the legacy of Professor Sir Ian Wilmut.
Professor Wilmut and colleagues pioneered an animal cloning research technique which produced Dolly the sheep, the first mammal created from an adult cell.
This inaugural event in Professor Wilmut’s memory will be presented by Professor Shinya Yamanaka, of Kyoto University, Japan, winner of the 2012 Nobel prize for medicine, and former colleague of the late Professor.
Professor Yamanaka's work in induced pluripotent stem cells - early stage, embryo-like cells that may develop into many other cell types - was inspired by the research that led to Dolly, and he will discuss recent research and applications in this field.
This lecture, followed by drinks reception, is supported by the Roslin Foundation.
The Roslin Foundation was established in 2008 following the merger of the former independent Roslin Institute with the University of Edinburgh.
It supports research and business development in biosciences, particularly in agriculture and biomedicine, with the aim of inspiring the next generation of scientists to enter this exciting field.
