UKRI-FUNDED STUDENTSHIPS
Postgraduate training provides the opportunity to develop the research, subject, communication and other skills you need for a wide variety of careers.
UKRI provide funding to UK universities and other eligible research organisations, to cover the fees and living costs of postgraduate research students. The majority of the students we fund are working towards a PhD. Each place a research organisation offers using this funding is called a studentship.

EASTBIO
The recruitment information for 2027 EastBio PhD projects is expected to be available in autumn 2026. The programme focuses on BBSRC-funded, high-level bioscience training.
The EastBio Research Symposium 2026 will be held on 24th to 25th June at the John McIntyre Conference Centre, Edinburgh.

Foundation Apprenticeship Course
Foundation Apprenticeships are one or two year courses open to students in S5 and S6. They help young people gain valuable, real-world work experience.
Midlothian Council is currently looking to build its Foundation Apprenticeship course in scientific technologies. They currently have students on placement at the University of Edinburgh, where technical staff pass on their expertise to students preparing to leave school.
