Professor Hans Clevers presents the second annual Sir Ian Wilmut Memorial Lecture: 'Lgr5 Stem Cell-based organoids in human disease’.

Join us for the second in a series of annual scientific lectures to celebrate the legacy of Professor Sir Ian Wilmut.

Professor Wilmut and colleagues pioneered an animal cloning research technique which produced Dolly the sheep, the first mammal created from an adult cell.

This year’s event will be presented by Professor Hans Clevers, Professor of Molecular Genetics at Utrecht University and pioneer of tissue stem cell-based organoids.

Professor Clevers’ research in stem cells has enabled the development of mini organs, or organoids, in a range of tissue types. These can be altered using gene editing, to allow the study of cell and tissue development, physiology and disease in models that are very similar to the organism under scrutiny. Professor Clevers will present his lecture ‘Lgr5 Stem Cell-Based Organoids in Human Disease’ at 3pm on 12 October in the Roslin Institute Auditorium.

This lecture, followed by a drinks reception from 4pm, is supported by the Roslin Foundation.

The Roslin Foundation was established in 2008 following the merger of the former independent Roslin Institute with the University of Edinburgh.

It supports research and business development in biosciences, particularly in agriculture and biomedicine, with the aim of inspiring the next generation of scientists to enter this exciting field.
