More tea? How Scotland's crops of the future could be set to change

Could Scotland become a major food-producing region for Europe as the climate changes?

Professor Wayne Powell, the principal and Chief Executive of Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) contributed to this BBC News article exploring what a changing climate could mean for Scotland’s agricultural future.

Professor Powell predicts that Scotland will become "the bread basket of Europe". A title  currently used to describe Ukraine, because of its abundance of fertile agricultural land and exports of crops including wheat, maize and barley.

As growing conditions shift, research, innovation and adaptation will be vital in understanding the opportunities and challenges ahead for Scottish farming and food production.
