MiAlgae lands £2.5 million for Grangemouth plant

Scottish biotech company MiAlgae has secured a £2.5m investment from the Scottish National Investment Bank. This funding is allocated to support the company’s new commercial-scale production facility located in Grangemouth, with the announcement made on 6 October 2026.

MiAlgae specialises in producing an Omega-3 powder by utilising by-products sourced from the whisky distilling process. This plant-based product offers an alternative to Omega-3, which is traditionally derived from wild-caught fish. The Omega-3 powder is a sought-after ingredient in the aquaculture feed and pet nutrition markets due to its properties that promote healthy skin and coats, cognitive function, and joint health.
